Katha Sagar was a popular Indian television series that aired on DD National in 1986. The series was directed by Shyam Benegal along with many renowned directors. The series featured a collection of stories by world famous short story writers such as Guy De Maupassant, Rabindranath Tagore, Leo Tolstoy, O. Henry, Anton Chekov etc.The series had different stories in each episode and most of the stories in the series were one-episode long. At that time, many other shows like "Darpan" and "Ek Kahaani", based on similar concept were aired around the same time as this series on DD National.After many years of it original run, the series was again produced by Prem Krishen Malhotra & Sunil Mehta, founders of "Cinevista Communications Limited".

A modern retelling of the classic folktale about the hare and the tortoise. Hard-working yet timid Rajaram has a secret crush on his neighbor. Before he gets the courage to tell her how he feels, fast-talking Bashu swoops in.

After her family gets murdered, Chitra, a lonely girl, spends a year in an asylum. She is petrified when she witnesses another murder and refuses to believe that it is her hallucination.

Rajaram P. Joshi (Naseeruddin Shah) is a middle-class Clerk living in a chawl in Bombay. He is secretly in love with his neighbor, Sandhya Karnik (Deepti Naval) but is unable to disclose his love for her. Rajaram`s fast-tallking friend, Bashudev (Farooq Shaikh) comes for a visit and makes himself at home. Bashudev starts wooing Sandhya and soon both in love with each other. The Karniks decide to marry Sandhya and Bashudev, much to misery of Rajaram. But on the day of the engagement, Bashudev disappears, and the engagement is called-off. Rajaram offers to marry the devastated Sandhya, but she tells him that she has been very intimate with Bashudev, and is pregnant, and it remains to be seen if Rajaram will accept Sandhya or otherwise.

Sagar, known as Jackie, among the criminal underworld, is called by his friend Indu to rescue her husband Manu from the Rozario gang, who kidnapped him. Jackie rescues Manu with ease, but it ensues a gang war.
